Women’s Dress Women’s dress, Swat Valley, Pakistan, Circa 1900, 111 x 89 cm (4’2″ x 2’11″), acquired in the Swat Valley in the 1980s, cotton with floss silk embroidery and inset satin underarm panels. Embroidered with a central stylised floral medallion beneath two stems of Ottoman-style tulips and rams horn designs.

Hanuman the monkey god is paying homage to Rama and Sita who are sitting in a pavillion, an attendant holding a whisk.  Two female musicians are performing in the garden while two others bring refreshments.
